The women's Major season begins this week with the Chevron Championship taking place at The Club at Carlton Woods in Texas for the second year in a row.

Lilia Vu claimed the spoils last year at the Jack Nicklaus-designed course, overcoming fellow American Angel Yin in a play-off, before then going on to win the British Open for Major number two.

World number one Nelly Korda heads into the tournament looking for a fifth straight LPGA victory that would also deliver her second success in the 'big five' events, after landing her first at the 2021 PGA Championship.

  • Haeran Ryu to win and each-way
  • Brooke Henderson to win and each-way
  • Yuna Nishimura to win and each-way

South Korean Set For Major Success

While Korda is the warm favourite to come out on top, there looks to be value elsewhere in the shape of Haeran Ryu, who has been progressing nicely over the last year.

The 23-year-old South Korean managed a tie for 56th on her Chevron debut last year but she has improved since that showing and arrives here as an LPGA winner, after her 2023 Arkansas Championship victory.

A strong tee-to-green game is often key to success at The Club at Carlton Woods, and Ryu's ranking of 24th in driving accuracy and fifth in greens in regulation should help her challenge here.

Ryu was tied-ninth at the Match Play last time out, the same result recorded at the Honda LPGA Thailand four starts prior, and a first Major title could be heading her way.

HAERAN RYU TO WIN EACH-WAY

Henderson To Be In The Mix

Brooke Henderson knows all about winning Majors, having landed the 2016 PGA and the 2022 Evian Championship, and her form this year suggests a third is not far away.

The Canadian has two top-five finishes and two top-10 results to her name, with her most recent outing producing a T9 at the Match Play, and she heads back to a course she was T23 at last year.

Henderson is fourth in GIR and 11th in scoring average, while her driving accuracy percentage of 76.98 looks good enough to negotiate this Texas test.

BROOKE HENDERSON TO WIN EACH-WAY

Nishimura A Lively Contender

Another player to watch out for is Yuna Nishimura, who showed exactly what she is capable of when finishing T3 at the HSBC Women's World Championship earlier in the campaign.

The 23-year-old, who is a six-time winner on the LPGA of Japan Tour, is one of the most accurate players in the game, boasting a driving accuracy ranking of eighth.

While her greens in regulation ranking of 67th is not as good as others in the field, the Japanese leads in sand saves and that should put her in good stead given the amount of sand traps protecting the greens.

Nishimura also excels on the greens, as she is in the top 10 for putts per GIR and putting average, and this strong form with the flat stick can help put her into contention for a maiden Major title.
