Punters Still Waiting
On February 11th, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas to secure their second consecutive Lombardi Trophy.
The event was a huge success for sports bettors all over North America, but it turns out some Ontario residents are still waiting to receive their winnings.
Extensive Backlog
Ontario sports bettors who have not been paid out for their Super Bowl winnings yet have taken to social media and Reddit to raise the issue, and now the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has spoken about the claims.
The company released a statement to CTV News Toronto stating that there was a backlog and that they were verifying a ‘higher than usual’ number of players’ banking information before releasing payments.
The OLG has confirmed that there was a ‘significant influx’ of new players during the event and that the process of verifying bank accounts has taken longer than expected. Unfortunately, the authority was still unable to provide an exact time for when the verification process would be completed.
Patience And Understanding Of Customers
OLG spokesman Tony Bitonti addressed the issue in an email. He said that the company needs to be thorough and that once documents and banking have been verified, players will receive their money.
Bitonti said ““Our verification process is aligned with the Standards for Internet Gaming set out by our regulator, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO)” adding that there is a responsibility to ensure everything is verified.
Typically, payments are verified within five days and are on their way to the customer. However, in this instance, it has now been over 21 working days. Bitonti added that he wanted to thank customers for their patience and understanding of the process and that they want to get account verified and paid as quickly as possible.
