Treasure Island Game Review

Treasure Island is a pirate-themed live game show released by Pragmatic Play in November, 2023. It takes you to a tropical island in search of cash prizes and bonus features, which we’ll cover in this Treasure Island review. The game is inspired by the classic novel of the same name, written by Robert Louis Stevenson and published in 1883. In Treasure Island, most of the game focuses on a huge wheel containing dozens of segments. Each segment either represents a cash prize or one of six bonus features. It has a theoretical Return to Player (RTP) of 96. 39% - 96.56% and awards a maximum payout of 15,450x your bet. Treasure Island is streamed from Pragmatic Play’s Romania studio and hosted by lively presenters dressed in thematic costumes (not pirate outfits, but near enough). The island setting offers a welcome change from the usual studio locations, and the variety of bonuses helps keep the gameplay fresh.

How to Play Treasure Island

How To Play

Treasure Island takes place in a studio with a great island set (a combination of props and graphics), with a host in command of the wheel.

In each round, the host spins the wheel and it gradually slows to a full stop. The pointer at the top of the wheel indicates the winning segment, whether that’s an instant cash prize or a bonus feature. There are 54 segments in total:

  • Yellow gem (21 segments)
  • Green gem (14 segments)
  • Red gem (8 segments)
  • The Great Scavenger bonus (4 segments)
  • Wild Collector bonus (3 segments)
  • Ben’s Lost Marbles bonus (3 segments)
  • John Silver’s Loot (2 segments)
  • Billy Bones’ Map (2 segments)
  • Captain Flint’s Treasure (1 segment)

Each round starts with the betting phase. This is where you and other players have time to place your wagers on one, some, or even all of the wheel’s segments. When the betting phase ends, multipliers are selected for each (using the ghoulish skulls in front of the wheel):

  • Yellow — 1x to 10x
  • Green — 1x to 20x
  • Red — 3x to 50x

Next, the host spins the wheel, and Wild Collector segments light up before it stops. When the wheel comes to a halt, players who made a winning bet receive their prize or a bonus feature starts (depending on the segment indicated by the pointer).

If the wheel selects a bonus feature, you only get to participate if you placed a bet on that segment. Otherwise, you and other non-winning players watch the feature unfold before the next round starts.

Treasure Island Bonus Games

Treasure Island includes six bonus game features:

Wild Collector

A particular number of segments are highlighted along the edge of the wheel, and the multiplier value of all the selected gems are added together to make up the instant prize. Payouts range from 2x to 900x.

The Great Scavenger

In The Great Scavenger, wins are determined by the number of glowing lights on each gem segment on the wheel, multiplied by the respective multipliers. Payouts range from 3x to 450x.

Ben’s Lost Marbles

Ben’s Lost Marbles features gameplay in the pinball/Pachinko style: marbles fall from the top of the screen and make their way down a grid. Along the way, they may land in multiplier pockets scattered across a grid.

All relevant multipliers are added together at the end. Payouts range from 2x to 10,000x.

Ben's Lost Marbles

John Silver’s Loot

Long John Silver’s Loot uses a bingo format. It revolves around a machine containing 40 coloured balls, each with a specific multiplier corresponding to the gem of the same colour. The machine can draw as many as 10 coloured balls, though black balls can appear: these reduce the amount of balls left to draw to five.

The multipliers on all the coloured balls drawn by the end of the feature are added together. Payouts range from 2x to 10,000x.

John's SIlver Loot

Billy Bones’ Map

Billy Bones’ Map is played on an 8x8 grid filled with numbered tiles. Pick any five of the tiles to reveal whether they contain a gem or key.

If you manage to reveal three keys, you can open a treasure chest to reveal a potentially huge payout. Otherwise, the values of all the gems you find will be added together and awarded as a prize. Payouts range from 5x to 15,450x.

Captain Flint’s Treasure

Captain Flint’s Treasure is played on a 7x6 grid containing barrels and six levels. You need to pick one barrel in every level to make your way through. Each barrel selected contains either a skull or a gem.

If you get a skull, the bonus will end. But if you find gems, your total multiplier will increase and you’ll move on to the next level. There are no skulls in the first two levels. Payouts range from 10x to 15,000x.

Languages, Hosts, and Presentation

Treasure Island’s hosts speak English. However, you can adjust the UI to display text in other languages, such as French, Chinese, and Danish.

The hosts do a great job of moving the gameplay along at a brisk pace and engaging players. It’s a shame they’re not dressed as pirates, though their ‘island’ outfits of red tops and beige trousers or shorts still fit well with the theme.

The studio looks fantastic, with palm trees, sand, skulls, and a blue sky on the screen in the background. Pragmatic Play has clearly put a lot of work into the presentation, and it’s a terrific set overall.

Treasure Island Payouts

Treasure Island’s base game has a theoretical RTP of 96.56, though it can vary in the bonus features. It has low volatility, so payouts may be frequent but typically on the smaller side. Here are the payouts on offer:

Pragmatic Play Treasure Island Final Thoughts

From a design perspective, Treasure Island is outstanding. The studio set brings the pirate theme setting to life brilliantly, with plenty of attention to detail.

The six bonus features are terrific overall, too. Each one feels distinctive and has its own style, whether you’re playing a bingo-style feature or searching for keys to unlock a treasure chest. They can award the biggest payouts in Treasure Island, too, with up to 15,000x your stake on offer.

The pace of the game and frequent bonus feature activation may make this a bit chaotic for some players who prefer a more conventional live game show experience. The low volatility means payouts can come often but be small, so high rollers may want to look elsewhere.

However, Treasure Island is still easy to recommend for the reasons above, and it’s well worth a look.
