In Captain Jack’s Curse, the visuals have a delightful ghoulishness, and there’s plenty of macabre imagery to feast your eyes on. Such as? One of the symbols shows an open-top skull with a grotesque brain inside, while another features a reanimated corpse’s hand bursting out of a grave.

Other spooky touches include shimmering spirits at the top of the screen and the ghostly Captain Jack himself. But thanks to the cartoony visual style, the game’s horror elements are more fun and lighthearted than frightening. 

The heavy rock music that plays might not be to everyone’s taste, but it works for the pirate theme and dark atmosphere.

While Captain Jack’s Curse is unlikely to be regarded as a classic, it’s nevertheless an entertaining and immensely playable game. The eerie atmosphere and fun, cartoony horror elements help it stand out from some of the more generic pirate slots on the market.

The bonus features are implemented into the game well, and launching cannons to trigger them is a novel touch that fits the pirate theme brilliantly. 

However, the max win is tiny at 766x your bet, even though some of the symbol values are surprisingly generous. At least the low volatility means that payouts tend to be frequent.

As it’s not designed for high rollers looking for huge payouts, Captain Jack’s Curse is best played for the theming, features, and steady wins.
