Playtech surely thinks that fishing-themed slots are still a winner even in the year 2026 as it has just Fish Trio, even if this one plays differently from other games in the genre. Gone are the fish symbols on the reels, or the free spins with a fisherman wild. Instead we get coloured coins that can trigger bonus features. What features, you wonder? Stick around, as we’re going to tell all in our definitive Fish Trio review.

The Fish Trio action takes place on the standard slot setup, namely one consisting of 5 reels and 3 rows. This allows for a total of 30 fixed paylines formed by landing 3 or more matching symbols on consecutive reels. Paylines always start from the leftmost reel, moving from left to right. Betting starts from as low as £0.10, and you can control the size of your bet through the coin button found underneath the spin button.
The slot has an RTP of 95.91%, but note that this can vary between slot games. In fact we’ve seen sites mention it being as low as 91.91%. The volatility is medium, as is typical of slots in the fishing genre. As for the maximum win this can reach up to 1,315x the stake during the game’s bonus features.
There are lots of different online casinos where you can play King Kong Crash Climber. Here is my pick of the best slot sites:

Perhaps unusually for a fishing slot Fish Trio is set next to the water rather than under it. In fact the reels are located on a beach where the waves gently lap the sand as a crab skitters round, coin held firmly in its pincer. That said the reels themselves are filled with water and hold the titular trio of fish on top. These blue, red, and green fish are labelled Boost, Multiply, and Collect, and may lead to the random triggering of the game’s Underwater Respins feature.
The reels hold 9 paying symbols - the high-paying lighthouse, anchor, shell, vase, and starship, and the A, K, Q, and J card royal low pays. The treasure chest wild can substitute for all symbols except the bonus scatters and the coins. The coins come in red, green, or blue, and each one landed is collected by the fish of the corresponding colour. The fish grows with each coin, and if it bursts out of its bowl it will trigger the Underwater Respins feature.
Let’s see how much the symbols are worth:

5 - 0.8x / 4 - 0.4x / 3 - 0.1x

Queen
5 - 0.8x / 4 - 0.4x / 3 - 0.1x

In case you were wondering, yes, Fish Trio is fully playable on all mobile devices. After all this is an HTML5 game, meaning it can be played on any modern internet browser, including the one running on your smartphone or tablet. As such you can play Fish Trio even while you’re on a boat trip, at least if you manage to get a reliable internet connection.

Fish Trio’s bonus feature is a hold and spin-style number titled Underwater Respins. Let’s check it out:
The Underwater Respins feature can be triggered by one of two ways - either landing 3 or more bonus scatters or randomly once a fish bursts out of its bowl. This replaces the standard 5-reel, 3-row setup with 5 reels each with 6 rows. Each of the top 3 rows corresponds to a round modifier, and triggering the round with 3, 4, or 5 scatters unlocks 1, 2 or 3 top rows respectively. You can also unlock a top row by landing its corresponding coin in the bottom 3 rows.
As mentioned the Underwater Respins is in the hold and spin style. As such you get 3 respins with which to land as many coins as possible on the bottom 3 rows. Any landed coins lock in place for the duration while landing at least 1 coin resets the number of respins back to 3. This means the round continues until you run out of respins. Coins hold a cash value that will be collected and awarded as a payout once the Underwater Respins feature is over.
But what about the top rows and the coloured coins? Coloured coins can land on the row of the same colour if it’s unlocked. Each holds a modifier:
Coloured coins do not lock in place when landed. In addition there are gem coins that award you a mystery prize. This can be Major, Minor, or Mini, which is worth 50x, 20x, or 10x the stake. Fill all 15 bottom reel spaces with coins for the Grand cash prize, which is worth no less than 1,000x your current bet.

While fishing themed, Fish Trio does not play like most other slots in the genre. In fact this is actually a hold and spin slot, with a bonus round based around collecting coins rather than catching fish. However this round does have an extra wrinkle with the top reel modifiers, which can lead to some decent wins if you manage to unlock any of them. It all makes for a pleasant, if ultimately unexceptional, slot with decent win potential and appropriately gentle medium volatility.
