If you have read a review of mine before, you will be aware of my opinion that the Fishin Frenzy slot series is looking tired. The graphics are nowhere near up to par with current releases, and the franchise is dogged by lazy sequels that offer little in the way of innovation. However, despite not being the target audience for fishing-themed slots or a fan of the franchise, I feel far more positive about Fishin Frenzy: The Big Splash, and hopefully, this slot heralds a new era for the franchise.
Players who love the familiar are sure to adore Fishin Frenzy: The Big Splash, as on the surface, this slot is pretty much a clone of the games that came before it, as is the base gameplay experience. Similarly, the math model is very much the same, complete with the dismal RTP of 95%.
It is the bonus feature of this slot which makes it different from its predecessors and, daresay, may show a hint of creativity from the developers. Fishin Frenzy slots have always had free spins with a collection mechanic as its bonus feature, but this time the free spins are accompanied by a pick and win feature and a bonus trail, which makes this feature much more engaging and in line with features offered in modern slot releases.
While this is all well and good, it does mean the game has an ‘all or nothing’ approach, as if, during your session you do not trigger the bonus (and are in a region that does not allow for Bonus Buys) you will be left with a generic and rather dull slot experience.
For these reasons, I rate the Fishin Frenzy: The Big Splash slot a score of 6.5/10, making it more of a moderate splash than abig one as promised.
