The bonus features in Gold Trio: Zones are based around the coin collection mechanic. Let’s see what this involves. 

Gold Trio Respins

Landing 1 or more of the coloured coin symbols can randomly trigger the Zold Trio Respins. This is a hold and spin-style feature with a “zone” based mechanic. Like any other such feature you get 3 respins with which to land coins on the reels. Any coins landed stick to the reels, and landing at least 1 resets the number of respins back to 3. Thus the round continues until you either run out of respins or fill all reel positions with coins. 

The zones mechanic divides the game grid up to 4 different zones. Zones have a multiplier of either 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x. If a zone is filled with coins then its multiplier will be applied to its coins’ total cash value. 

Depending on the colour of the coin that triggered the feature you’ll get a different modifier. Modifiers can be combined into the same round for a total of 3 modifiers being active at the same time. These are as follows: 

• Green - you get 4 respins instead of 3. 
• Red - random coins get their value increased as you play. 
• Orange - extra zones are added on top of the reels. 

We’ve mentioned how coins hold cash prizes, but there are also diamond coins that hold a mystery cash prize, and Mild, Medium, Hot, and Xtra Hot coins. These award you with a jackpot prize that is respectively worth 10x, 200x, 200x, and 1,000x the stake. You can also win the Xtra Hot jackpot by filling all reel positions with coins. 

While Gold Trio: Zones promises to bring the spice, its flavour is mild at best. The low RTP and unimpressive 1,000x max win did little to keep us playing, and while the Gold Trio Respins feature can get fun with the modifiers it’s ultimately just another hold and spin slot. There really is nothing too wrong with this one but we can point you towards plenty of better slots, even ones in the Gold Trio series.
