- Autumn Wild: Up to 11 Wilds can appear. Symbols may turn Wild or be destroyed from the edges.
- Winter Wild: Up to four Wilds may hit. Wilds will not be removed after a win.
Wilds can be triggered on any non-winning spin, and they substitute for all standard symbols.
Fortune Frog
The Fortune Frog meter in the bottom-right corner charges up with each winning cluster you land, but resets between spins. After you win with 33 symbols consecutively, the Fortune Frog activates and selects one feature at random:
- Croak: One symbol set pays as a Scatter instead of in adjacent spots.
- Spawn: One random symbol set transforms into a different one.
- Tongue: Two edges are chosen randomly, and symbols that land between them turn into a different symbol.
- Hop: One random symbol destroys and transforms symbols in adjacent positions.
Super Charge
The Super Charge Fortune Frog charges up with wins, but activates after you win with 88 symbols instead. This applies a 5x multiplier to all wins.
Season Bonus
Seasons can change randomly on non-winning spins, and each has its own Wild symbol. Seasons transition in chronological order.
All winning clusters formed in a season help boost the Season Bonus by 10% of win amounts, and the Season Bonus is awarded each time a new season begins.
Mahjong 88 Final Thoughts
Mahjong 88 boasts Play’n GO’s usual high quality presentation, with vibrant visuals and soothing sound. But beyond that, the range of bonuses made for a deeper and more engaging experience than I expected initially.
If you prefer more traditional slot gameplay and a fast pace with dynamic action, Mahjong 88 may not be for you. The high volatility can make generous payouts hard to come by for long stretches, too, and trying to charge the Fortune Frog meter may become frustrating.
