Marlin Masters Atlantis Slot Review

Marlin Masters Atlantis is a slot in the fishing genre, but one that takes place in the mythical Greek city. White marble buildings tower in the background, while the reels are bordered by a pair of statues holding golden bowls. The reels are inhabited by the same symbols found in the previous Marlin Masters slots - which is not a complaint, since these fish  feature fun designs and animations that help these games stand out from the competition. 

There are 4 high-paying fish on the reels in green, red, orange, and blue. The low pays are the classic A, k, Q, J, and 10 card royals. The anchor wild can substitute for all of these symbols to form more winning combinations. Another returning symbol is the Marlin. This also forms winning combinations, but the way it does is a bit special and, as such, we’ll detail it further on in this review. The same goes for the fisherman, who collects the values of any Marlins in view, and the Kraken lurking on reel 1. 

Let’s see the values of the paying symbols: 

• Wild: 5 - 20x
• Blue Fish: 5 - 7.5x / 4 - 3x / 3 - 2x
• Green, Red, Orange Fish: 5 - 3x / 4 - 1.5x / 3 - 0.5x
• A, K, Q, J, 10: 5 - 1x / 4 - 0.3x / 3 - 0.1x

Marlin Masters Atlantis brings further additions to the Marlin Masters formula. The “Lootways” and Marlin collection mechanics return, as do the free spins, but now there’s a Kraken lurking on reel 1. 

Lootways

All reels hold Marlin symbols that display cash values ranging from 1x to 100x. You can form winning combinations with these just like all the other paying symbols, which is to say landing 3 or more on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel. However this is called a “Lootway” because the payout is the total of the values held by the Marlins. 

As well as regular Marlins there are Jackpot Marlins that hold different fixed jackpot prizes. These are Mini, Major, Mega, and Max worth 25x, 100x, 500x, and 10,000x the stake respectively. You can win this jackpot by either having the Marlin make part of a Lootway or through the Fisherman symbol. 

Fisherman

A must have in all fishing-themed slots, the Fisherman appears on all reels of Marlin Masters Atlantis. When landed he will collect the values of any Marlins in view. He can also hold a multiplier of up to 20x which will be applied to the total of all the Marlin values he collects. In the case of more than one Fisherman on the reels these will collect the values of all Marlins in view separately. You can get a maximum of 3 Fishermen on the reels in the same spin.

Kraken

Reel 1 holds the Kraken Collector symbol, which is a crown. When landed this will expand to reveal the Kraken before triggering a series of respins where only Marlins, Jackpot Marlins, and blank spaces will land on the reels. Any Marlins landed will lock in place on the reels, and the respins will continue until no more new Marlins land. Once the round is over the Kraken collects all the values and awards them as payout.

Sunken Empire Free Spins

Land 3 scatters anywhere on the reels for 10 free spins with a progressive Trident Bar meter feature. Landing a Fisherman progresses the bar by 1 step. Get to 5 steps for upgrade: 

• Upgrade 1 - +8 free spins and any fishermen that land will have a multiplier of at least 2x
• Upgrade 2 - +8 free spins and all fishermen that land will have a multiplier of at least 3x
• Upgrade 3 - +8 free spins and all subsequent fishermen that land will have a multiplier of 5x or more

Triggering the free spins with 4 scatters awards you with 15 free spins with an enhanced chance of reaching the different upgrade levels through the Trident Bar. 

Marlin Masters is one of the more charming fishing slot series, and Hacksaw hasn’t missed a beat with this third entry. Marlin Masters Atlantis might not be for everyone, as this is a slower-paced compared to titles from the developers, but those who stick with it will be rewarded with solid win potential and a couple of great bonus features. The Lootways mechanic can lead to some decent payouts if the fish land right, and the addition of Kraken further adds to the excitement. Looks like Hacksaw has brought us another winner here!
