The Medusa myth is one of the most iconic in the Greek mythological canon, and slot developers have brought the story to life in hundreds of different ways over the years. Play’n Go, never a developer to shy away from some good Greek-themed chaos, have now brought Medusa to life once again in Medusa’s Madness, serving up a healthy selection of bonus features and the chance to win over 2,000x your stake. Let’s find out more in this Medusa’s Madness slot review.
Medusa’s Madness takes place on a 5x5 game grid and uses a cluster-pay mechanic. You will land a win when you hit four or more symbols in a cluster anywhere on the grid. A cluster involves symbols touching one another horizontally or vertically.
The stake options run below the reels. Use the +/- buttons to cycle through the options. They start at £0.10 and reach up to £100, which is typical of Play’n Go games and a good range that should please most budgets.
The slot game has been given a medium volatility rating, and it serves up a very respectable RTP of 96.59%. The maximum win here is 2,000x your stake, which is slightly underwhelming.
Play’n Go is one of the most prolific developers in the industry, and its titles are always in high demand. The following are some of the best slot sites to play Medusa’s Madness for real money, as selected by our team of casino experts at Gambling Zone.
You can always rely on Play’n Go to deliver a nicely designed online slot, and they have done exactly that with Medusa’s Madness. The action takes place at the bottom of a set of white steps leading to a temple on the way to Mount Olympus. Perseus, the slayer of Medusa, stands proudly beside the reels and is brought to life with some fun animations. The gameplay is scored by a wailing violin and scaled harp notes, creating a magical yet slightly eerie atmosphere.
The symbols consist of precious gems with uppercase and lowercase letters from the Greek alphabet. The more valuable symbols are icons from the myth of Medusa, including the items Perseus uses to escape the gorgon. There are Hermes winged sandals, Hades’ helmet, a Xiphos, the name of the hourglass-bladed swords from Ancient Greece, and a serpent from Medusa’s hair.
There are also three Wild symbols, the Special Wild, which is a round shield and can trigger Stone Gateway feature effects, the Multiplier Wild depicting Perseus, which multiplies wins it is involved with, and the Mega Wild, which is Medusa’s head and is larger than the others. Wild symbols substitute for all regular symbols to complete wins.

Medusa’s Madness is available on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. No, not stone tablets, tablet computers. Thanks to HTML5 technology, the game will slither seamlessly onto any device regardless of whether they run iOS or Android. Whether you’re climbing Olympus or just relaxing at home, the game runs smoother than Hermes delivering a message.
You can help defeat Medusa by triggering one of the following Medusa’s Madness bonus features.
Winning symbols disappear from the reels as the remaining symbols and new ones cascade to fill in the gaps.
The shifting around of symbols can lead to new wins. Completing cascading wins charges the Stone Gateway which is in the top left of your screen. For every seven symbols involved in a win, two Special Wilds are added to the reels. If you complete a win with one of the added Special Wilds you may trigger; Petrify and lose a row or column of symbols, or Gaze which removes all instances of a random symbol.
If you complete cascading wins with 42 symbols it will trigger a single free spin with three Stone Gateway effects.
If you overcharge the Gateway by winning with more than 42 symbols you will get one additional Gateway effect for every three symbols you are over. You can receive a maximum of seven Gateway effects. The round starts with 11 or 12 Eye Marks on the reels. Land a win in all of the Eye Marks to land a Medusa Mega Wild. If you do not secure a win from the spin and/or when all wins have been exhausted from Eye Marks and cascades, one Stone Gateway feature you have earned is triggered.
This feature will play out until there are no more wins left, which is when the next Stone Gateway feature is triggered. This continues until you don’t have any wins on the reels or Gateway Features remaining.
Medusa’s Madness certainly lives up to its name when it comes to the bonus features, with the Cascading Wins, charge meter, and Gateways feature meaning the action can get quite chaotic. Unfortunately, Play’n Go has several similar titles in their back-catalogue, and almost all of them offer a more exciting maths model, with the game’s 2,000x maximum win and medium volatility leaving this one feeling a little flat.
