The Oiran Hearts slot game has a few bonus features to discover. Here’s some more information about them:

Doki Doki Dice

A meter to the left of the screen is filled up when winning clusters are formed. Any new wins that occur as part of the current cascade will also fill up the meter (but if no new wins are formed, the meter resets to zero). 

Once the meter is full, the Doki Doki Dice feature is triggered. Note that the meter has five different levels; the more winning symbols in your clusters, the higher the level. Subsequently, the higher the level you are on, the more dice can potentially be rolled at once.

A die (or multiple dice) will be rolled on screen, and the number it lands on is the number of Wilds that will be added to the grid. These Wilds have multipliers of between 2x and 10x, which are applied to any wins they form a part of. They will continue to appear on the reels until no new wins are formed.

Free Spins

The free spins round is triggered by landing three or more butterfly Bonus scatters anywhere on the grid on the same spin. The more scatters that trigger the round, the more free spins you will be awarded - up to a maximum of 12 free spins for five scatters. During Free Spins, less symbols are required to trigger the Doki Doki Dice feature, and the number of dice to be rolled increases.

Add Wild

When a winning combination includes a Wild symbol and the symbols are removed, there is a chance for a new Wild to appear in one of the empty spaces. This new Wild may also come with a multiplier.

Oiran Hearts is an unusual slot game - not least because of its slightly controversial theme, and its female characters next to the reels looking slightly provocative. However, games like this can be an interesting way to learn about other cultures  – I for one was not aware of the history of the oiran, plus other details. For example, ‘Doki Doki’ is a Japanese phrase that refers to the beating of a heart, often associated with falling in love. It’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into this game and its design.

In terms of gameplay, I always enjoy a game with a meter to fill. I liked how there are multiple opportunities for progression within the game, with the potential to unlock more dice depending on how many symbols fill the meter.

It would have been nice to see a slightly increased RTP and maximum win, since 96.36% and 5,000x bet are a little on the low-to-average side. However, all in all this is an original slot game that is highly appealing, particularly to players interested in Japanese culture.
