Second Thunder Slot Review

Second Thunder goes for the fully dramatic Norse experience, being set on a dark and icy battlefield where armies are set to clash in the face of a raging storm. Get close to triggering a special feature and the storm comes to life, revealing the gigantic silhouette of the god of thunder himself. Add a full soundtrack and you get a game that both looks and sounds right for the theme it is going for. 

The game’s reels hold 9 paying symbols. Of these 5 are the high pays, namely the viking, wolf, boar, serpent, and eagle. The shield, horn, axe, and helmet, on the other hand, make the low pays. The wild can substitute for any of these symbols in order to form more winning combinations. However it cannot substitute for the scatter, which will trigger the free spins if 3 or more hit the reels.

Second Thunder has some interesting bonus features, including one based around its wilds. Let’s see what they involve. 

Wild Field 

Landing wilds on 2 or more wilds in positions that create a rectangle triggers the Wild Field. This transforms all enclosed symbols into wilds. This field can expand to up to all the 6 reels, and the free spins can be triggered while a Wild Field is active. 

Feature Row

We haven’t mentioned the extra row set on top of the regular reels. This is the Feature Row, which can hold up to 6 special symbols that are randomly activated during regular spins. When active it holds at least 1 wild or scatter plus multipliers of 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x. If activated the multipliers are applied to wins involving symbols in their corresponding reel. In the case of multiple multipliers making part of the same win then these are added up and the total applied to the win. 

Free Spins

Land 3 scatters anywhere on the reels for a round of 5 free spins. Any additional scatters add +2 spins each. The Feature Row is active on every spin during this round. The free spins can be retriggered by, once again, landing 3 or more scatters. 

While Thunderkick looks to evoke the apocalyptic tone of Ragnarök in Second Thunder, it feels weird to admit that this slot just feels… pleasant. There’s nothing wrong with it, aside from an overly low 94.2% RTP, but while it does everything else right it only does so competently. Nothing immediately impresses aside from the visuals and music, and even then we’ve all seen slots that look even better. So yes, it’s big and looks nice, but Second Thunder feels more like a walk in the park than a battle for the End Times.
