While we live in a world of remakes and reboots, we were still a bit surprised when Play’n GO announced Tomb of Gold Reimagined. After all, the original Tomb of Gold was only released in 2024, and was good enough to receive a sequel a year later. So is Tomb of Gold Reimagined a true remake or more of a third entry in the series? That’s what we’re setting out to determine in our Tomb of Gold Reimagined review, of course!

Tomb of Gold Reimagined features the exact setup as the original Tomb of Gold, with 5 reels, 4 rows, and a total of 4.096 paylines. The winning combinations are still formed by landing 3 - or 2 in the case of the high pays - matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. There are special gem symbols that are removed from the reels when landed, but these do not trigger any sort of cascade mechanic and instead simply leave an empty space on the game grid.
As is typical of Play’n GO slots Tomb of Gold Reimagined has a variable RTP. The base RTP is decent at 96.24%, but this can be adjusted to as low as 84.24% by operators. Even worse is that unless we’ve missed anything there’s no way to tell your game’s current RTP in either the paytable or About section. Then again this is a low volatility slot game so no matter the RTP you’re still set to get a regular stream of admittedly small wins as you play. Speaking of wins these are capped at up to 10,000x your current bet, which can start from £0.10.

Tomb of Gold Reimagined does look very similar to the original, but on closer inspection it does reveal a few visual refinements. Play’n GO was never a slouch as far as graphics go, and Tomb of Gold Reimagined brings us an opulent Egyptian tomb that is dramatically lit by flickering torchlight and mysterious glowing symbols. The music is also up to the developer’s standard, with Egyptian-style music that sets the tone perfectly.
The reels hold 9 different paying symbols. The red mask, purple panther, green scarab, and blue ankh are the high pays, while the low pays consist of the familiar A, K, Q, J, and 10 card royals. The cobra wilds substitute for all paying symbols and can hold multipliers of either 2x or 3x. The last symbols on the reels are the gem scatters, which come in blue, red, or purple. When landed these are collected in the prize pot of the same colour on top of the reel, as well as randomly trigger the Lock’n Gold bonus feature.
These are the values of the paying symbols:

6 - 1x / 5 - 0.6x / 4 - 0.3x / 3 - 0.1x

Jack

While it might look like it, Tomb of Gold Reimagined is a mobile-first game that was built using HTML5. As such you can play it right in your internet browser no matter the device you’re using. THat said this is a game better suited for a widescreen experience, so we recommend playing it in landscape mode as opposed to portrait in the case of smartphones.

Tomb of Gold Reimagined has one main bonus feature, the Lock’n Gold round. Its wilds meanwhile have a multiplier so let’s take a look at those first.
The cobra wilds can appear with a 2x or 3x multiplier which will be applied to any wins they make part of. In case a payline includes more than one wild then their multipliers will be added up and the total applied to the payout.

The Lock’n Gold feature is a rejigging of the same round found in the original Tomb of Gold. However this time around this is triggered randomly whenever you land at least 1 gem scatter. The round itself is a hold and spin-style feature where you get 4 respins with which to land coins on the reels. Any landed coins lock in place for the duration and reset the number of respins back to 3. As well as coins the reels hold gems that bring modifiers into the mix.
The round continues until you either run out of respins or fill all reel positions with coins. In any case once the Lock’n Gold is over the values of all coins on the reels are revealed and added up before the total is applied to your bet as a multiplier and awarded as a payout.

Tomb of Gold Reimagined is something of a disappointing affair that adds very little to the original Tomb of Gold. Sure it looks and sounds amazing, but we’ll be first to admit that we’re not exactly fans of the current prize pot trend. Maybe some players find the idea of the prize pot randomly awarding you with the bonus round fun, but we’re not among them! If you happen to be among those then much power to you, but the pairing of low volatility and variable RTP means low win potential, even when the max payout can reach up to 10,000x the stake. It all makes for a slot that’s just not enough, at least in our opinion.
