In case you’re not familiar with the original Wild Woof, Wild Woof Returns features a Western setting, if one inhabited by animal cowboys and bandits. The titular Wild Woof is the sheriff, who’s hunting for the gang of bandits whose posters are found on top of the reels. In fact the reels are designed after a poster board, while the game’s background features a lovingly painted vision of the dusty American frontier complete with cactuses, canyons, and rolling tumbleweed. 

We’ve mentioned the bandit gang, and these are more just set dressing - they are actually the game’s wilds, with each reel getting its unique cat character. Wilds can substitute for all symbols except the scatters, which features Wild Woof. Scatters are found on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5, and landing 3 or 4 will award you with a free spins round. The paying symbols are divided in High, Medium, and Low categories, and consist of a pair of pistols, a collar, a bottle of whiskey, a stetson hat, an ashtray complete with cigar, and the A, K, Q, and J card royals.

Multiplier Wilds

Wilds are found on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5, with each wild featuring a different character corresponding to the Wanted post on top of its reel. Wilds can feature a 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x random multiplier. In the case of multiple multiplier wilds making part of the same win then these are added up and the total applied to their wins. Wild multipliers are persistent during the free spins rounds. 

Mystery Symbols 

Mystery symbols featuring the silhouette of Wild Woof can land on any spin. These can land in stacked form and will reveal the same paying symbol. 

Wanted Woof Free Spins

Landing 3 scatters awards you with a round of 7 Wanted Free Spins. During these multiplier wilds should hit more frequently, and come with a persistent feature. The first wild will land with a 2x multiplier, then 3x, and so on until reaching 5x. You can land up to 4 wilds per reel during this round. Land all 4 wild characters on the same spin for +3 more free spins. 

Dog or a Wild Free Spins 

Land all 4 scatters on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5 for the Dog or a Wild Free Spins. These open the two closed spaces on the reels, making for 6 reels with 4 rows each, a setup that increases the number of paylines to 4,096. The multiplier wilds work the same way as during the Wanted Woof free spins, and landing all 4 wild characters on the same spin adds +4 free spins to the total. 

Wild Woof Returns combines two fun themes, animals and the Western, in a package that is equal parts charming and uncomplicated. We’re big fans of unusual reel setups here, especially when these can grow to further boost the number of available paylines. Wild Woof Returns has this fun gimmick, but we admit it will take you a long, long while before you can actually trigger it. This is due to a relatively low RTP that’s sub-96%, not to mention the high volatility. Still, we enjoyed this one and you might as well if you click with its theme and gameplay.
