Not So Unlucky 13
Everyone has dreamed of hitting that big accumulator win, and that dream came true for one lucky Betfair punter this past weekend. The player placed a £50 bet on 13 different selections at odds of 5,273/1. When their bet came in, they won a staggering £264,712.
The bettor, who remains unnamed, placed a £50 stake on 13 results from the Premier League and Championship. He selected nine wins and four draws. The following were his choices:
- Luton vs Tottenham - TOTTENHAM
- Everton vs Bournemouth - EVERTON
- Burnley vs Chelsea - CHELSEA
- Fulham vs Sheffield United - FULHAM
- Cardiff v Watford - DRAW
- Sunderland vs Middlesbrough - MIDDLESBROUGH
- QPR vs Blackburn - BLACKBURN
- Coventry v Norwich - DRAW
- Leeds United vs Bristol City - LEEDS
- Ipswich vs Preston - IPSWICH
- Leicester vs Stoke - LEICESTER
- Millwall v Hull - DRAW
- Crystal Palace v Nottingham Forest – DRAW
How The Acca Unfolded
Things got off to a rocky start. Tottenham travelled to Kenilworth Road in this weekend’s early kick-off, and the accumulator was nearly over before it began. Spurs headed into half-time with ten men and a goalless scoreline. However, Micky van de Ven headed home his first goal for the club in the 52nd minute to put them on course for a 1-0 win.
Another game that threatened the wager involved Coventry and Norwich. Despite having clear dominance and 21 shots on goal, The Sky Blues were still 1-0 down against The Canaries with three minutes to go. An own goal from centre-back Ben Gibson caused this game to finish 1-1.
Dominant 4-0 and 2-0 wins for Blackburn and Leicester, respectively, would have proven to be a lot less stressful for the punter. He then had to sit through a cagey 90 minutes at Selhurst Park as Nottingham Forest battled to a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace to secure the big win.
Betfair Response
The bettor’s win quickly caught fire on social media, with enthusiastic betting accounts sharing the news far and wide.
Betfair themselves responded in good nature about the result. A Betfair spokesperson, Sam Rosbottom, said that the punter had taken them to the absolute cleaners while describing the 13-fold accumulator as game-changing.
Rosbottom also referenced the aforementioned Coventry result, saying that one, in particular, had rubbed salts in the company’s wounds. They then said that they took their hat off to the winner and publicly congratulated him.
