Super Bowl LVIII Smashes Betting Record

Super Bowl LVIII Smashes Betting Record

Final Showpiece

The world’s media turned its attention to Las Vegas this weekend when the city played host to the 58th annual Super Bowl.

The event, which is the final of the NFL season, attracted a worldwide audience of millions and also saw the Las Vegas betting record for the show smashed by more than $6 million.

A Memorable Final

The event generated $186 million in sports betting wagers, which beat the previous record by $6m. The match itself was a Super Bowl classic, with the Kansas City Chiefs securing a second consecutive Super Bowl in the final three seconds of overtime. The win was their third in four seasons, and they became the first team to win back-to-back events since the New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005.

Nevada Sportsbooks reported a $6.8 million win on the game, meaning that bettors in the state performed well for the second-straight event. Sportsbooks won just $4.4 million last year, with the previous four events averaging $13.2 million.

The Kansas City Chiefs were the favourites going into the game, with many punters backing them. The odds for the game to go into overtime was 10/1, which has undoubtedly contributed to the bettors' success on the match.

Super Bowl Fever

As always, Super Bowl fever swept the nation, with FanDuel reporting that it took over 14 million bets nationwide for the match. These bets came from 2.5 million active users and generated more than $307 million for the operator.

Betting figures from other states are expected to be revealed in the coming days and weeks. GeoComply, which is a tracking service that monitors betting in the country said that there was a 22% increase in betting activity across the States during Super Bowl weekend.
