Gibraltar Market Base
WagerWire is preparing to establish a prediction market operation in Gibraltar after its parent company, Wire Industries Inc, received licence approval in principle from the territory’s regulator, according to iGamingBusiness.
The move would allow Wire Markets Ltd, described as Wire Industries’ prediction market subsidiary, to pursue a regulated operating base in Gibraltar. The approval in principle does not amount to a full launch, but it marks a further step in Gibraltar’s attempt to position itself as a licensing hub for newer betting-adjacent products.
Gibraltar Role In The Expansion Plan
WagerWire is best known for its marketplace model in the United States, where users can buy and sell active sports betting positions. The company launched in 2023 and has since developed products built around market-based participation in betting and fantasy sports.
According to iGB, Wire Industries intends to use Gibraltar as an international base for its prediction market operations. The company is targeting initial product activation later in 2026, timed around the start of the NFL season and international football league campaigns.
For Gibraltar, the development is notable because prediction markets remain a contested area in parts of Europe. These products typically allow users to take positions on the outcome of real-world events, raising regulatory questions over whether they should be treated as gambling, financial products, or a separate category.
A Changing Licensing Environment
Gibraltar’s Gambling Division says it regulates the remote and non-remote gambling sector in the territory. Its website states that the Gambling Act provides for separate roles for the Licensing Authority and the Gambling Commissioner, supported by the Gambling Division.
The Government of Gibraltar also states that all gambling operations in the jurisdiction require licensing, with gambling licences issued by the Licensing Authority and compliance overseen by the Gambling Commissioner.
That framework is now being tested by prediction market operators seeking a formal route into European-facing regulation. iGB reported that Gibraltar’s Minister for Justice, Trade and Industry, Nigel Feetham, previously set out plans for the territory to become one of the first European jurisdictions to target and license the prediction market vertical.
The same report said Gibraltar had already licensed ADI Predictstreet as a prediction market operator earlier in 2026, before WagerWire’s approval in principle.
