End of October
Sports Betting CPI Chairman, Senator Jorge Kajuru has confirmed that the West Ham and Brazil midfielder will have to testify in front of the committee on October 29th. The midfielder has been accused of match-fixing, with several incidents in his matches being brought into question following unusual betting activities.
Kajuru has spoken with conviction about the situation, saying ahead of Paqueta’s appearances for Brazil last week, "I think it's absurd, I think it's abominable that the player Paqueta is still on the Brazilian national team, being called up, playing (he'll play tomorrow, he'll play next week), when his name is being fully investigated.”
The Chairman has also confirmed that there will be evidence presented that suggests Paqueta’s family were involved in the situation. He also stated there is evidence that another player was potentially involved.
Fixture Clash
The announcement of this testimony will raise concern for West Ham fans, with the dates clashing with the team’s clash away at Nottingham Forest. The Hammers have struggled for form in recent weeks, winning just one of five of their previous games.
There is no official confirmation yet as to whether or not the midfielder will be required to attend the event in person.
