Liverpool moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League on Sunday and they should follow up by sealing a Carabao Cup final place at the expense of Fulham.
The Reds swept Bournemouth aside at the weekend, winning 4-0, and they now take a vital 2-1 lead into their EFL Cup semi second-leg clash against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday.
Jurgen Klopp's side have now won five games on the bounce in all competitions and, while the Cottagers may be more rested having had a free weekend, it seems unlikely they will be able to prevent the visitors from going through to the final at Wembley next month.
Marco Silva's side put on a decent display in the first game at Anfield, though, and took the lead in the first half through Willian but the Reds roared back after the break with goals from Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo to secure a slender advantage.
- Fulham v Liverpool - Draw
- Darwin Nunez to score anytime
- Over 10 corners in total
Cottagers Can Hold Reds
A draw would be enough for the Merseysiders to book themselves in for another trip to Wembley as they eye a record-extending 10th triumph in the cup competition.
However, the 2-1 first-leg win a fortnight ago and the earlier 4-3 victory for the Reds at Anfield in the league were both very competitive clashes in which Fulham played a full part.
They were ahead in the first leg and were also leading 3-2 in the league in December before a late comeback from the home side, and those entertaining games prove Silva's side are capable of causing Liverpool problems.
With a packed Craven Cottage roaring them on, Fulham will give everything to try and turn the tie around. They may not end up being quite good enough but they can at least hold Liverpool on the night.
Nunez To Continue Good Form
Darwin Nunez has been criticised at times again this season for missing some easy chances and, while the Uruguayan is sometimes guilty of failing to capitalise in the final third, he still has a decent record this season with 10 goals and 10 assists to his name in total.
His brace at the Vitality Stadium at the weekend was key in helping Klopp's men pick up the three points as he slotted home the opener and wrapped it up with the fourth goal.
Nunez is full of energy and occupies defenders and across his last five games he has attempted 21 shots, with 12 of those being on target.
It wouldn't be a surprise therefore to see him on the scoresheet once again in midweek.
Corner Count Should Be High
There were 10 corners in the first game and, with what's at stake in the second leg, we should expect plenty of attacking output from both sides and therefore plenty of corners too.
Liverpool have accumulated the third-most corners in the top flight this season with 138 from their 21 games, while Fulham have won a more modest 103 from their 21 matches in the league so far as they sit 11th in that particular table.
Drilling down further into the corner stats, Fulham average 4.90 corners per game in the league, while opponents average 4.38 corners per game against them. Their average for total corners in league matches stands at 9.29.
Liverpool, as you would expect, average more corners per game (6.57) than Fulham, but there's a slightly higher average of 4.81 won by their opponents when coming up against the Reds, and the total corner average in the league in their games stands at 11.38.
All that considered then, backing more than 10 corners in total in the second leg may well pay off.
