The final game of the weekend Premier League programme sees West Ham making the trip to Newcastle to face the in-form Magpies.

The home side will be seeking a fourth successive league and cup win as they return after the international break, while Hammers manager Julen Lopetegui needs to see a more promising performance from his side after they failed to score while taking just one point from their last two games.

The match at St James' Park kicks off at 20:00 GMT and it could produce an entertaining conclusion to the weekend action.

Magpies Can Continue To Climb Standings

Newcastle will want to resume where they left off in the Premier League after winning three successive games before the Nations League interruption and they have an ideal opportunity to pick up another three points at home.

Visitors West Ham have yet to impress this season and their heads have dropped at times in road games as they have suffered a 4-1 defeat at Tottenham and a 3-0 loss at Nottingham Forest, while also being beaten 5-1 by Liverpool at Anfield in the EFL Cup.

There was little to like about their performance in a 0-0 London Stadium draw against Everton before the break and derby draws at Fulham and Brentford are all they have to show for their efforts in away games since a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace in August.

Newcastle have conceded only three goals in five home league games as they have beaten Southampton, Tottenham and Arsenal and drawn 1-1 with Manchester City, with their only St James' Park loss coming by the only goal of the game against Brighton.

With Dan Burn suspended, Newcastle will be forced into a defensive reshuffle, which adds to the chances of West Ham scoring a consolation goal and the visitors have netted in 10 of their 13 matches this season, including in four of their six league and cup defeats.

NEWCASTLE TO WIN AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

Entertaining Affair Looks Likely

There have been plenty of goals when these teams have got together recently, with 11 scored in last year's Premier League clashes as Newcastle won 4-3 at home and the London Stadium clash was drawn 2-2.

Both teams have scored in their last seven meetings, and nine of the last 10 going back to 2019. West Ham won 4-2 at Newcastle in the 2021-22 season and lost 3-2 there the previous year.

Newcastle's 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest in their last match was only their second fixture with four or more goals this season, but the Hammers have been involved in four such high-scoring affairs and they could struggle to keep out the in-form home side.

Isak Enjoying A Golden Run

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak finished third in last season's Premier League golden boot race with 21 goals and is beginning to climb the rankings this season too.

The Swedish star has scored four top-flight goals and has notched in his last four club games, becoming the Magpies' first scorer each time.

He bagged a goal in Sweden's 2-1 win over Slovakia and would have had another in their 6-0 victory over Azerbaijan but for an incorrect VAR decision. Isak appears to be in the right frame of mind to extend his scoring run on Monday night.
