Scotland host England in an international friendly on Tuesday evening (7.45pm kickoff), and while there is nothing riding on the contest in a competitive context, it does promise to offer plenty of action.
Scotland are one of the most in-form sides in Europe and Steve Clarke’s men are in pole position to qualify for Euro 2024. England are also in a strong spot when it comes to making next year’s European Championships in Germany, but the Three Lions were anything but convincing in a 1-1 draw with Ukraine last time out and this looks like another tough test for Gareth Soutgate’s side.
- Scotland to win

Scotland A Solid Bet
Scotland have won eight of their last ten matches to see them bossing their Euro 2024 qualifying section, and they can collect another victory when England come to Hampden Park on Tuesday evening.
It may only be a friendly contest in Glasgow, and it’s possible that Clarke will look to shuffle his pack against England, but the Tartan Army are in expectant mood and a feverish atmosphere is guaranteed.
Scotland have made easy work so far of a Euro 2024 qualifying group containing Spain, Georgia, Norway and Cyprus and the quality of those sides is not to be underestimated. Clarke’s men are five-from-five in qualifying for Germany and they have won their last six Hampden Park matches, conceding only one goal along the way.
England have the quality to play a big part in this contest, but Southgate has struggled to find a system that maximises the Three Lions’ potential and England were pretty average when drawing 1-1 with Ukraine in Poland on Saturday evening.
At the prices, Scotland look a pretty solid bet to continue their good run.
Goals Could Flow In Glasgow
Scotland have seen eight of their last 11 matches go over the 2.5 goal mark and they have scored 10 goals in their five Euro 2024 qualifying contests.
Clarke’s side have been in excellent form and they look to have a strong chance of finding the net against a makeshift England backline.
The Three Lions do have a squad packed with attacking talent though and the likes of Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford have the quality to hurt any defence.
Clearly, there is little riding on this game, from a competitive point of view, and that should allow both teams to push forward and play with freedom.
A packed Hampden Park will no doubt implore the Scots to push forward and it’s likely that we will see a high-scoring Glasgow clash.
Porteous Offers Set-Piece Threat
Center-back Ryan Porteous found the net for Scotland in Cyprus on Friday and the Watford defender looks good value to repeat the trick.
Clarke’s side are likely to prove a major threat from set-pieces, and with England missing the likes of Luke Shaw and John Stones at the back, there could be opportunities for Porteous.
The Three Lions were far from convincing from a defensive standpoint against Ukraine and the Tartan Army are good enough to take advantage of England’s weakened back-line.
