Europa League Betting Tips - Semifinal 2nd Leg

Europa League Betting Tips - Semifinal 2nd Leg

A trip to the Aviva Stadium, Ireland for the Europa League final on May 22 is on offer for two of the four remaining teams left in the competition, as both semi-finals come to a conclusion with the second legs on Thursday.

Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen won 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in the first leg and it will take a huge effort from Roma to turn this tie around at the BayArena.

Atalanta and Marseille's last-four clash is finely poised at 1-1 after the first meeting at the Stade Velodrome, and it promises to be a nerve-jangling affair at the Gewiss Stadium.

We have picked out two betting suggestions for each semi-final second leg, with Bayer to maintain their unbeaten season and set up a final clash against either Atalanta or Marseille.

LEVERKUSEN VS ROMA

  • Bayer Leverkusen to win and over 2.5 goals
  • Florian Wirtz anytime goalscorer

ATALANTA VS MARSEILLE

  • Half Time Result - Draw
  • Under 2.5 goals

Bayer Leverkusen vs Roma

Leverkusen are enjoying a fairy-tale season that has already seen them crowned Bundesliga champions and they are right in the mix to complete the treble, with a DFB Pokal final against FC Kaiserslautern coming up on May 25.

The German Cup final comes just three days after the Europa League final, but before Xabi Alonso's side can even think about lifting three trophies this term, they must book their spot at the Aviva Stadium.

Holding a two-goal advantage, Bayer have one foot in the final and they warmed up for the second leg with a 5-1 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt, ensuring they remain unbeaten in all competitions this campaign.

It is now 48 matches since Leverkusen last tasted defeat and they have been near-perfect at the BayArena, winning 21 of their 24 assignments and drawing the other three.

Alonso's troops have also been perfect at home in the Europa League, winning all five of their fixtures with an aggregate score of 18-4, and they can gain revenge over Roma after falling to the Italian side at this stage of last year's competition.

Bayer have been imperious in attack, netting a joint-leading 29 times in the Europa League and a second-best 82 in the Bundesliga, while over 2.5 goals has landed in 31 of their 40 victories this season.

Roma should also provide a threat, as they know they have to attack to stand a chance of making it through, and they have found the back of the net in seven of their last eight matches.

But Daniele De Rossi’s should ultimately fall short in their bid to reach a third straight European final, having won the Conference League in 2021/22 before finishing runner-up in last season’s Europa League showpiece.

Another betting avenue to go down is the anytime goalscorer market and Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, who was rested for the weekend's victory at Frankfurt, gets the nod here.

The 21-year-old Germany international has been in superb form this season, grabbing 11 goals and the same amount of assists in the Bundesliga to help deliver the club's first ever league title.

He grabbed his fourth goal of this season's Europa League in the first leg and Wirtz, refreshed and spurred on by the vociferous support from the BayArena crowd, can once again torment Roma.

Wirtz may also be worth considering to grab the first goal of the contest, something he has done four times in the Bundesliga and on three occasions in the Europa League.

LEVERKUSEN TO WIN AND OVER 2.5 GOALS

FLORIAN WIRTZ TO SCORE ANYTIME

Atalanta vs Marseille

The second leg of the semi-final between Atalanta and Marseille is likely to be a lot more cagey than the contest over in Germany, with the tie locked at 1-1 and neither side wanting to make a mistake.

Backed by a packed Gewiss Stadium, Atalanta should have the edge in this one although they may have to bide their time against a Marseille side which is expected to frustrate for as long as they can.

La Dea head into this contest on a five-game unbeaten streak, winning four and drawing one, but Marseille have also avoided defeat in their last quintet of fixtures, drawing three and tasting success twice.

Jean-Louis Gasset's visitors should make life tough for Atalanta in the opening 45 minutes and they can get to the break with the scores level, something they have achieved in two of their last three away fixtures.

The second half is when Gian Piero Gasperini's troops should turn on the style as they have often improved in attack after the interval, with just one of their six goals scored at home in this season's Europa League coming in the opening period.

A nervous first half should see these two drawing at the break before Atalanta grab the win that will secure their place in a maiden European final.

Going on the belief that this will be a cagey affair, the second betting suggestion is for there to be under 2.5 goals in the contest.

Neither side will want to leave themselves exposed at the back and this will likely result in a nerve-jangling affair, with chances few and far between.

Of Atalanta's five Europa League matches at home, under 2.5 goals has landed in four of those, while the same bet has been successful in Marseille's last two outings in this competition.

HALF TIME RESULT - DRAW

UNDER 2.5 GOALS
